I am a lecturer at the Civil Engineering Department and a researcher at the Structural Engineering Research Group of Institut Teknologi Bandung. I am also the Indonesian Representative of the Asian Civil Engineering Council Committee- Future Leaders Forum (ACECC-FLF), and director of content to the West Java Indonesian Association of Remote Sensing (MAPIN-Jabar).

I focus on Wind Engineering and studied Wind Energy at The University of Tokyo. Currently I am working on the development of the Indonesian Wind Map for building design, and have research on Computational Fluid Dynamics to explore wind movements in city context; this research is jointly coordinated and supported by BBTA3-BPPT (click here for a list of our work in the building of the wind map, and here for a list of our work in CFD). I am also currently working on the development of the Indonesian Building Stock Database, to help understand region wide vulnerability by focusing on understanding and mapping residential house quality in Indonesia.

But I am also a curious human being, and love above all to dive into a range of topics by reading, listening to others, traveling, etc. This blog was created to house and document not just my professional journey, but also to bear witness to the many activities that I participate in. In here you will find book recommendations, How-to pages, notes, etc, all touching on things I have pondered about, or worked on.

Over the years I have co-founded a women empowerment platform called ceritaperempuan.id , developed my skills in being a mentor to startups and social entrepreneurs (at Instellar, TINC, Rise - UnLtd), become part of a business (our baby ujin), given numerous talks,  initiated a mindful walking practice under the social media tagline of "Have you walked today?". and had the opportunity to write an opinion piece titled, "How can Indonesia break its vicious cycle of cheap imports?" for the World Economic Forum,

Among the various seemingly not connected activities that I happen to be part of (or sometimes initiate), the underlying connection is a restlessness of making my short time on earth worthwhile. And despite this often seemingly selfish quest for mastery or knowledge, I simply believe that the world is only as limited as we believe it to be. Yet, I still need to proof it to myself.

Get to know me better on my most active social media, Instagram, under @asihsimanis or go to my Google Scholar Page, or Scopus Page to see the body of work on my research.

Thank you for dropping by.
